Abstract
Dynamic gratings are produced by interfering light beams usually derived from lasers. We therefore recapitulate some basic properties of laser beams and discuss two-beam interference more extensively. The next step to be considered in grating production, is the material response which is treated here only phenomenologically and will be discussed in more detail in Sect. 3.3. Gratings are detected by diffraction which is described theoretically in Sect. 4.3. Some important results and experimental considerations, however, are already given here.
