Abstract

This article challenges the conventional role of operational data stores and staging areas in managing a corporate information factory (CIF). Vendors, consultants and industry publications have dedicated a lot of attention to the tools and uses of completely integrated data. Nextel’s experience, however, suggests that the CIF’s value and future may lie in its operational data store (ODS) rather than its integrated data warehouse.
