Summary

Large-Eddy Simulations were performed for the turbulent separated flow in an axisymmetric diffuser. In order to decrease the size of the separation region an active control technique was applied using blowing/suction through slits on the diffuser’s circumference. The slit position and slit geometry as well as the frequency and amplitude of the control flow were varied. Using this technique, the length of the separation zone could be reduced by up to 37%. At the same time, the pressure loss in the diffuser could be reduced by 20%.
