Abstract
The environment in which we live exposes man and all other animals to chemicals that have been elaborated by other life forms, released to control other life forms, given to cure or prevent disease or affect growth, or propagated as a result of man’s technology. These compounds may appear in foods, medicines, solvents, detergents, cosmetics, the atmosphere, and in our water supplies; and they may interact with enzymes, substrates, or chemical impulse transmitters in such ways as to affect and influence behaviour.
