Abstract
It is shown that the birefringence of Ti-diffused/proton exchanged optical waveguides in LiNbO3 can be precisely controlled to adjust phase matching for collinear acoustooptic mode conversion, also for low acoustic frequencies. Fabrication and properties of a 85 MHz mode converter/single sideband modulator are reported.
