The optical device that constitutes the eye and which we studied in paraxial approximation gives an inverted image of an object that is focused onto the retina. This image excites the visual cells. Consequently the nervous impulse, which the fibers of the optic nerve transmit, stimulate the visual centers of the brain. This is the procedure by which we see.
