When a lens that was calculated to correct oblique astigmatism in far vision is used for near vision a slight astigmatism results, usually negligible owing to the accommodation of the subject. For example, for an object 33 cm from the lens and at ω′ = 30°, a punctual lens of the Ostwalt type with a power-10 D produces 0.13 D astigmatism, which is not noticeable.
