Abstract

The development of high-power transform-limited tunable pulsed laser systems has enabled major advances in the application of coherent Raman techniques to high-resolution studies in gases. In particular quasi-cw inverse Raman studies have demonstrated resolving powers which are approximately a factor of 50 improvement over that which is generally associated with conventional Raman techniques [1]. Even higher resolution is potentially possible as improved lasers are made available.
