Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Applied and Computational Mechanics ((LNACM,volume 12))

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the multiscale aspects of two-phase flow, with the ultimate object being a mechanistically-based model for particle and bubble transport by turbulence. The model is the “standard” two-fluid model for two-phase flow that is derived using ensemble averaging, and consequently that model describes macroscale motions for two-phase flows. The microscale origin of the turbulent dispersion force will be highlighted, and a model for this force derived. Results of application of this model to sediment transport will be shown.
