Abstract

Collisions of electronically excited iodine atoms I* (*=2P½) can result in efficient energy transfer to vibrational modes of the collision partner (E-V transfer) or in reactions which produce electronically and/-or vibrationally excited products. Either of these processes might form the pumping scheme for a new laser system. This paper will outline our recent progress in understanding these effects.
