Zusammenfassung

Artefakte sind einerseits störende Kunstprodukte, die gerade am Thorax durch die besonderen anatomischen Gegebenheiten die Darstellung und Beurteilung erheblich erschweren. Andererseits wird durch das Fehlen von ansonsten typischen Artefakten an der Lungenoberfläche oder am knöchernen Thorax die Diagnostik bestimmter Erkrankungen erst möglich (subpleurale Lungenläsion, Rippenfraktur), da dann Parenchym- oder Knochenbeurteilung möglich wird. Schließlich dienen Artefakte auch als diagnostisches Kriterium, so z. B. Luft mit Reverberationsechos im Pleuraraum bei Pneumothorax.
