Unterstßtzende Maßnahmen sind in der Therapie eines krebskranken Menschen mindestens ebenso wichtig fßr den Erfolg der Therapie wie Operation, Chemotherapie, Immuntherapie oder Strahlentherapie. Unter „supportiv“ versteht man die Unterstßtzung, häufig sogar die Multiplikation der eigentlichen tumorspezifischen Therapie. Der Tumorkranke ist als Individuum zu betrachten. Symptome wie Übelkeit und Erbrechen, Schmerzen, Obstipation, Anämie, Schwäche, Antriebslosigkeit, Veränderung der Persönlichkeit belasten den Patienten und die Angehörigen in einem ganz erheblichen Maße.
