Zusammenfassung
Als Psychopharmaka gelten alle Substanzen, die in zentralnervöse Prozesse eingreifen und psychische Abläufe beeinflussen. In den letzten Jahrzehnten ist diese Substanzgruppe enorm gewachsen, da viele Pharmaka aber auch Drogen und Genussmittel durch ihre „Nebenwirkung“ die o. g. Potenz haben. Gleichzeitig wurde auch das Indikationsgebiet erweitert. So ist ein Einsatz neben den klassischen psychiatrischen Indikationen auch in der Schmerztherapie und Anästhesie gängige Praxis. Die Informationsverarbeitung bzw. Weiterleitung im zentralen Nervensystem (ZNS) wird durch Hemmung und Verstärkung von Erregungsübertragung in einem diffizilen Gleichgewicht gehalten. Psychopharmaka greifen in dieses Gleichgewicht ein, wobei es gerade bei Kombination verschiedener Psychopharmaka bzw. Kombination mit andern Medikamenten mit Psychopharmakaähnlichen Nebenwirkungen schwierig ist, eine genaue Voraussage über die Art der Beeinflussung der ZNS-Prozesse zu machen.
