Zusammenfassung

Angststörungen zählen neben den depressiven Störungen zu den häufigsten psychischen Erkrankungen in der Bevölkerung. Epidemiologische Studien gehen von einer Lebenszeitprävalenz von etwa 14% aus (Regier et al. 1998). Die meisten Angststörungen neigen frühzeitig zur Chronifizierung, spontane Remissionen sind selten (Wittchen 1988). Eine Angststörung tritt meist nicht isoliert auf, sondern häufig in Kombination entweder mit weiteren Angststörungen (ca. 75%) oder aber mit depressiven Störungen (bis ca. 50%) bzw. mit Substanzmissbrauch (bis ca. 40%, Magee et al. 1996).
