Abstract
This lecture is devoted to solitons in supersymmetric theories. The emphasis is put on special features of supersymmetric solitons such as “BPS-ness”. I explain why only zero modes are important in the quantization of the BPS solitons. Hybrid models (Landau–Ginzburg models on curved target spaces) are discussed in some detail. Topology of the target space plays a crucial role in the classification of the BPS solitons in these models. The phenomenon of multiplet shortening is considered. I present various topological indices (analogs of Witten’s index) which count the number of solitons in various models.
