Abstract

For the fusion of a high-resolution panchromatic image (PAN) and a low-resolution multispectral image (TM), this paper presents a new fusion algorithm based on the new characteristic wavelet transform (CWT), intensity-hue- saturation transform (IHS) and the edge-intensity-factor (EIF). First, the decomposed PAN details can be fused into the decomposed intensity component of the TM image by CWT fusion algorithm. Then, the new intensity component can be reconstructed using the new inverse CWT based on EIF. Finally, the fused image is reconstructed by means of an inverse IHS transform using the fused new intensity component, the hue and saturation components from the original TM image. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve better combining performance in preserving the spatial characteristics and the spectral information.
