Abstract

The destruction of substance in the process of breaking of gravity oceanic waves and drop-spray phase capture in the powerful airflux of a near-surface wind, as well as intensive near-surface thermal convection, causes the appearance of an aerodisperse high-velocity medium over the sea surface, the parameters of the medium highly fluctuating both in particle concentration and spectrum, and in its turbulence (see Chapter 5 and Plate 2 in the Prelims of this book). As the practice of remote sensing of the ocean-atmosphere system under high sea disturbance conditions has shown, the most effective methods of studying such complicated media can be passive and active microwave remote systems (including radar systems with synthesized and real aperture and Doppler scatterometers) (Krasiuk and Rosenberg, 1970; Meischner, 1990; Sharkov, 1998, 2003; Bulatov et al., 2003; Mouche et al., 2006).
