Abstract
Information recommendation in E-commerce applications often uses a social filtering method to cluster similar users based on their profiles, characteristics or attitudes on specific subjects. This paper describes Fairy Wing: a distributed information service system, which utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags as portable media for user-computer interaction with inexperienced users. The characteristics of the proposed system are summarized as follows: (1) The system is installed on small PCs with a reasonable RFID reader/writer and works with/without computer networks (2) It is effective in distributed computer environments even for a small number of users. (3) It gradually accumulates users’ profiles from individual behaviors then generates recommendations and advice for each user. A prototype system has been implemented and validated on user navigation in a shopping mall.
