Abstract

A necessary step of developing a system for geometric reasoning is the choice of the representation of the geometric objects that are going to be used. In section 1.3 we restricted the possible shapes of objects to polytopes. Polyhedra and polygons may be described by linear subspaces namely points, (infinite) lines and planes. In this chapter we want to explore a mathematical description of points, lines and planes in 2D and 3D, which from now on are referenced as basic geometric entities or just geometric entities.
