Abstract

We present a simple, commercial WSN for monitoring electrical energy consumption. We discuss WSN characteristics, practical problems, constraints and design decisions which mainly are motivated by our concrete application and the need to make our WSN low cost to implement, plug & play to install and easy to maintain. This results in a system and protocols different from many WSNs discussed in the literature. Particularly, we present a multi-hop routing protocol suited to a simple system such as ours.
