Einen vergleichbaren Entrüstungssturm rief 16 Jahre zuvor ein Buch namens „The Bell Curve” in den USA hervor, das ähnliche Thesen vertritt und von Sarrazin ausgiebig zitiert wird. Die USAutoren Charles Murray und Richard J. Herrnstein warnen vor einer Verdummung der Gesellschaft durch überproportionale Vermehrung von Unterschichten und Afro-Amerikanern. Sie agieren im Fahrwasser eines pseudowissenschaftlichen Netzwerks, das die nach den Nazi-Gräueln in Misskredit geratene Eugenik-Bewegung wieder gesellschaftsfähig machen will.
