Zusammenfassung

Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, eine Verbindung zwischen Mediensoziologie und Wirtschaftssoziologie herzustellen. Medienforscher gehen davon aus, dass gegenwärtige post-industrielle Gesellschaften von Medien durchdrungen und ohne diese nicht mehr vorstellbar sind. In Medientheorien wird dies als Prozess der ‚Mediatisierung‘ bzw. als ‚Mediatic Turn‘ thematisiert – als Kolonisierung der Alltags- bzw. Lebenswelt durch Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien, die sich vor allen in den letzten 20 Jahren signifikant beschleunigte (Jäckel 2005; Krotz 2001; Rusch 2008: 33). Die Frage ist allerdings, welcher konkrete Wandel vorhergehender Strukturen sich damit ergibt, und ob und wie z. B. Kommunikationsprozesse grundlegend beeinflusst werden. Die Soziologie hat diese Entwicklung seit den 1980er Jahren vor allem mit einem neuen Fokus auf Netzwerke und schließlich mit dem Begriff des Übergangs zu einer Netzwerkgesellschaft konzeptualisiert (Castells 2001).
