Zusammenfassung
Städte sind Orte des Neuen. Die Verbindung von Kreativität und Stadt ist so alt wie die Stadt selbst. Dennoch lässt sich in den letzten Jahren eine immer stärkere Betonung der urbanen Potenziale für die Entstehung und Entfaltung von Kreativität beobachten: Kreativität gilt als neue Schlüsselressource und kulturelles Leitbild städtischer Entwicklung. Einerseits lässt sich die Debatte um die Kreative Stadt als eine Antwort auf die vielfältigen strukturellen Herausforderungen lesen, mit denen sich Städte konfrontiert sehen. Hierzu zählen etwa der ökonomische Strukturwandel, die zunehmende soziale Polarisierung, die verschärfte Wettbewerbssituation unter den Städten und damit der Drang zu „Local Distinctiveness“ sowie zu höheren und gleichzeitig konstanten wirtschaftlichen Innovationsraten oder auch der Umgang mit dem Klimawandel. Andererseits bieten Städte für die Entfaltung von Kreativität besondere Bedingungen, die in ihrer spezifischen Struktur angelegt sind. Denn Städte sind „Meeting Places“ und Orte gesteigerter Intensitäten. Sie verdichten Kommunikation und Interaktion – eine zentrale Bedingung für das Entstehen von Kreativität. Doch nicht jede Stadt entwickelt aus ihrer spezifischen Struktur heraus kreative Prozesse.
