Die qualitative Inhaltsanalyse geht zurück auf Siegfried Kracauer, der sich kri tisch mit Berelsons berühmter Konzeption der quantitativen Inhaltsanalyse aus einander setzte. Kracauer sprach sich gegen Quantifizierungen und die daraus resultierenden Vereinheitlichungen aus, da diese den untersuchten Gegenstand nicht mehr entsprechend erfassen können.„Overemphasis on quantification tends to lessen the accuracy of analysis. Content analysis is frequently obliged to isolate and process the more intricate characteristics of a sample; and whenever this happens it runs the risk of treating them inadequately.“ (Kracauer 1952: 631).
