Zusammenfassung
Im November 2005 berichtete die Los Angeles Times, dass das in Washington ansässige private Sicherheitsunternehmen Lincoln Group für die US-Streitkräfte im Irak Beiträge in irakischen Medien platziert hatte, in denen ein positives Bild des US-Militärs und seines Einsatzes gezeichnet wurde. Die Beiträge wurden von US-Einheiten für psychologische Kriegführung verfasst und anschließend ins Arabische übersetzt; die Herkunft der Zeitungsartikel war nicht ersichtlich, sodass die Los Angeles Times kommentierte: „The arrangement with Lincoln Group is evidence of how far the Pentagon has moved to blur the traditional boundaries between military public affairs – the dissemination of factual information to the media – and psychological and in-formation operations, which use propaganda and sometimes misleading information to advance the objectives of a military campaign“ (Mazzetti/Daragahi 2005).
