Zusammenfassung

In der Geschichtswissenschaft sind postkoloniale Ansätze dazu angehalten, zuerst die Reichweite des Postkolonialen zu klären. Mit einem ersten, engeren Konzept von Postkolonialismus wird die historische Phase der Dekolonisation nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg – in Indien um 1949 sowie besonders in den 1960er Jahren weiter Teile des afrikanischen Kontinents – bezeichnet. Hiermit ist die formale Beendigung des Kolonialstatus‘ sowie die Auflösung der Kolonialreiche – vor allem des British Empire – gemeint, womit in den ehemaligen Kolonien ein neuer Prozess von nation- und state-building einsetzte. In diesem Konzept bezeichnet das Präfix ›post‹ einen historischen Wendepunkt, der eine Trennlinie zwischen kolonialer Vergangenheit und postkolonialer Gegenwart markiert.
