Peter Goldie (2000) widmet sich in The Emotions. A Philosophical Exploration einer Vielzahl von Fragen rund um Gefühle, ohne die Antworten alle in einem Hauptgedanken zusammenzuführen. Aber in der Rezeption des Buchs und Goldies Reaktionen darauf kristallisierte sich eine Idee heraus, die Goldie in den folgenden Jahren immer deutlicher zu einer eigenen Position innerhalb philosophischer Emotionstheorien ausarbeitete.
