Zusammenfassung
Aus europäischer Sicht besitzt eine mit der Kombination von qualitativen und quantitativen Daten arbeitende Forschung eine längere Vorgeschichte als sie aus amerikanischer Sicht erscheint: In den Anfängen der empirischen Sozialforschung im ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts herrschte noch ein relativ unbefangener und unideologischer Umgang hinsichtlich der Kombination von qualitativen und quantitativen Methoden vor. In der Methodologie Max Webers findet man sogar eine programmatische Verknüpfung von beiden Methoden.
