Zusammenfassung
Im Jahre 1968 erfand der österreichisch-amerikanische Businessguru Peter Drucker den Begriff „Wissensökonomie“. Was er damit ausdrücken wollte, war, dass die von den ökonomischen Wissenschaften traditionell angenommenen sogenannten Produktionsfaktoren – Land (Bodenschätze), Arbeit und Kapital – von der neuen Primärressource Wissen verdrängt worden sind (Drucker 1968). Drucker sah die Gründe für den Aufstieg von Wissen vor allem in der Abwanderung industrieller Produktion in periphere Regionen der globalen Ökonomie. Gleichzeitig war ihm aber auch klar, dass das von ihm beschriebene Phänomen einer Art Kultur(r)evolution gleichkam, der sich Arbeits- und Unternehmensstrukturen nun schleunigst anpassen müssten, um weiterhin effektiv wirtschaften zu können. Interessanterweise dauerte es noch ein Vierteljahrhundert, bis sich der zur Wissensökonomie passende Organisationsslogan herauskristallisierte und popularisierte. Die Rede ist vom „Netzwerk“, das als allgemeine soziale Organisationsform von Manuel Castells These vom Rise of the Network Society erfolgreich angeschoben wurde. Seit Castells verstehen wir die Gesellschaft im Allgemeinen und Wirtschaftsstrukturen im Besonderen vor allem in der Kategorie des Netzwerks.
