Die Globalisierung der Umweltorganisationen

Zusammenfassung

Die Vorgänger der heutigen Umweltorganisationen waren die Naturschutzorganisationen, die Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts auf der nationalen Ebene in verschiedenen Industriestaaten entstanden. Darunter befanden sich unter anderem, Vogelschutzorganisationen, wie zum Beispiel die Audubon Society in den Vereinigten Staaten, die Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Großbritannien, und der Bund für Vogelschutz in Deutschland, Naturschutzorganisationen, wie zum Beispiel der Sierra Club in den USA, der Bund Naturschutz in Bayern, und der Naturskyddsföreningen (der Schwedische Verein für Naturschutz), und Organisationen die Naturschutz mit anderen Zielen gebündelt haben. Der Bund Heimatschütz und der National Trust for Places of Historie Interest and Natural Beauty in Großbritannien hatten z. B. nicht nur Naturschutz zum Ziel, sondern auch die Bewahrung von Kulturlandschaften und Ruinen. Den Norske Turistforening (Norwegischer Bergreiseverein) und der Club Alpino Italiano haben den Naturschutz und den Tourismus gebündelt. Umweltorganisationen, so wie sie heutzutage definiert sind, existierten nicht auf der nationalen Ebene, auch wenn man auf der lokalen Ebene versuchte, Luft- und Wasserverschmutzung zu bekämpfen (Hayes 1959, van Koppen und Markham 2007, Markham 2008).
