Zusammenfassung
Wie jedes länger am Markt befindliche Management-Instrument hat Corporate Social Responsibility eine bewegte Karriere in Form von Konjunkturzyklen, Metamorphosen und Migrationsbewegungen hinter sich . Auch wenn die gegenwärtige Diskussion manchmal den Anschein erwecken mag, es handle sich um ein dem aktuellen Zeitgeist und aktuellen Problemlagen geschuldetes Konzept, so datiert CSR ähnlich wie das damit verwandte „Stakeholder Management“ bereits Jahrzehnte zurück. In seiner Übersicht über Denktraditionen in Bezug auf die soziale Performance von Unternehmen identifizierte bereits Frederick (1987: 142) insgesamt drei deutlich voneinander abgrenzbare Strömungen: „Corporate Social Responsibility“ (CSR1, 1950er-1960er), „Corporate Social Responsiveness“ (CSR2, frühe 1970er) und „Corporate Social Rectitude“ (CSR3, ab Mitte der 1970er). Ohne dass die darin enthaltenen Differenzierungen noch einmal ins Bewusstsein gerückt worden wären, erfreut sich Corporate Social Responsibility in diesem Jahrzehnt – insbesondere beflügelt durch die Finanzkrise sowie vielfältige Unternehmensskandale einerseits und durch eine mutmaßliche „Moralisierung der Märkte“ (Stehr 2007) angesichts neuer sozio-kultureller Praktiken wie „strategischem Konsum“ oder „CarrotMobs“ andererseits – plötzlich in Kontexten von Marketing und Unternehmenskommunikation einer ungekannten Beachtung.
