Zusammenfassung

Armut, ebenso wie Arbeitslosigkeit, stellt das hauptsächliche gesellschaft - liche Problem im heutigen Polen dar, sowohl aufgrund ihrer Tragweite als auchihrer Natur. Hinsichtlichihrer Tragweite schwanken die Schätzwerte von Armut je nachden angewandten Armutsmaßstäben und Armutsgrenzen. Ende 2003 lebten 12 % der Bevölkerung in extremer Armut, d.h. unterhalb des Existenzminimums, während 20 % der Bevölkerung unterhalb der relativen Armutsgrenze anzusiedeln waren (GUS 2003). Das Syndrom der „strengen Armut“ charakterisiert Familien, die von Arbeitslosigkeit, niedrigem Bildungs- und Qualifizierungsniveau des Familienoberhauptes, großer Kinderzahl in der Familie, dem Leben in ländlichen Gebieten und Kleinstädten geprägt sind, besonders in den Regionen strukturell bedingter Massenarbeitslosigkeit (Gebiete in Nordostund Nordwest-Polen).
