Zusammenfassung
Welche Rolle spielt der Begriff „Kultur“ in der relationalen Soziologie, also etwa in der Systemtheorie oder Netzwerkforschung? Die Systemtheorie untersucht das Verhältnis von Gesellschaftsstruktur und Semantik und stellt dabei fest, dass kulturelle Formen und Strukturen der Gesellschaft einander „entsprechen“ und miteinander „korrespondieren“. Zwar wird das Verhältnis von Sozialstruktur und Kultur nicht kausal verstanden und auch wird Kultur nicht marxistisch als „Überbau“ auf eine strukturelle Basis „reduziert“, wohl aber werden „Struktur“ (Gesellschaft) und „Sinn“ (Kultur) voneinander unterschieden und dann aufeinander bezogen (Luhmann 1980: 7, 15). Diese Unterscheidung jedoch ist selbst innerhalb der Systemtheorie fraglich und umstritten, denn soziale Strukturen sind doch auch – oder sogar ausschließlich – Strukturen der Kommunikation und damit des Sinnes. Wenn dies so ist, wird die Beziehung zwischen Struktur und Kultur zumindest redundant.
