Das Kriegsgeschehen 2008

Zusammenfassung

Die Kampfhandlungen zwischen dem äthiopischen Militär und der Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) im Somali-Bundesstaat in Ostäthiopien haben sich im Berichtsjahr fortgesetzt. In der Folge der militärischen Konfrontation wurden beiden Parteien Menschenrechtsverletzungen vorgeworfen. Insbesondere das äthiopische Militär ging bei der Verfolgung der Rebellenorganisation mit besonderer Gewalt auch gegen die Zivilbevölkerung vor. Dieses Vorgehen zwang im Berichtsjahr viele Tausend Bewohner der Region zur Flucht nach Somalia und Kenia. Fortgesetzt wurde seitens der äthiopischen Regierung auch die gezielte Abschottung der Region. Der Regierung wurde von Seiten der UN, humanitärer Organisationen und der USA wiederholt vorgeworfen, die humanitäre Hilfe zu behindern.
