Unterstützung der Europäischen Union in Mittel- und Osteuropa: Die Rolle nationalstaatlicher Einstellungen als Heuristiken

Zusammenfassung

Im Mai 2004 traten acht mittel- und osteuropäische Länder der Europäischen Union bei, einem supranationalen politischen System, das zusammen mit den Mitgliedstaaten in einem Mehrebenensystem die Politik der Nationalstaaten und Europas mitbestimmt. Da die Europäische Union nicht mehr ausschließlich ein Eliteprojekt ist (als Beispiel seien die Referenden zum EU-Beitritt in allen neuen Mitgliedstaaten genannt), ist dieses System, wie alle anderen demokratischen Systeme auch, auf die Unterstützung der Bürger angewiesen. Mit Bezug zur politischen Kulturforschung (Almond/Verba 1963) kann festgehalten werden, dass die Stabilität des europäischen politischen Systems auch von den Einstellungen der Bürger zu diesem supranationalen Gebilde abhängt. Das heißt, die Einstellungen der Mittelund Osteuropäer bestimmen die Zukunft des europäischen Kontinents mit und die Unterstützung des neuen politischen Systems ist essenziell für eine erfolgreiche Zukunft der EU.
