Zusammenfassung
Sieht man von historischen, netzbasierten Autorensystemen wie TICCIT und PLATO (Nievergelt, 1975) ab, so existieren Lernplattformen seit etwa zehn Jahren. Ihre derzeitige Nutzung an Schweizer Schulen lässt sich grob wie folgt charakterisieren:

Etwa die Hälfte der Schweizer Schulen nutzt eine Lernplattform (Barras & Petko 2007, S. 105)

Ein Anteil von 92 % dieser Schulen setzt die von Bund und EDK öffentlichen Schulen kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellte Lernplattform educanet2 ein (a. a .O.).

Von den zahlreichen Funktionen von educanet2 werden nur E-Mail und gemeinsame Dateiablage von mehr als der Hälfte der User genutzt. Forum, Chat, Online-Tests hingegen werden nur von wenigen eingesetzt (Petko, in diesem Band, S. 34).
