Zusammenfassung

Im Mittelpunkt des Beitrags steht die Theoriebildung zur europäischen Integration. Bis in die 1990er Jahre geprägt von drei großen Theoriesträngen und ihren Varianten – dem Föderalismus, dem Funktionalismus und dem Intergouvernementalismus – hat die Theoriebildung seit einigen Jahren parallel zum Vertiefungs- und Erweiterungsschub ihres Untersuchungsgegenstands erheblich an Facettenreichtum gewonnen. Theorien europäischer Integration sind heute ein dynamisches und ausdifferenziertes Forschungsfeld, in dem die Ansätze weniger – wie noch in der „klassischen“ Integrationstheorie – konkurrieren, als sich vielmehr komplementär jeder auf seine Weise mit einem spezifischen Aspekt der Integration beschäftigen.
