Zusammenfassung
In seiner ursprünglichen neodarwinistischen Prägung stellt der evolutionstheoretische Ansatz der Organisationsforschung ein extremes Gegenstück zu handlungsrationalen Ansätzen dar, wie im folgenden Zitat von Hannan und Freeman (1977, 939f.) zum Ausdruck kommt: „From a population ecology perspective, it is the environment which optimizes. Whether or not individual organizations are consciously adapting, the environment selects out optimal combinations of organizations. So if there is a rationality involved, it is the ‚rationality‘ of natural selection.“
