Wie wirkt sich das theoretische Konzept der Diversität auf soziales Handeln aus?

Zusammenfassung

Ungleichbehandlungen und Diskriminierungen aufgrund kultureller Differenzen lassen sich in Alltagskontexten zahlreicher Gesellschaften permanent beobachten. Parallel dazu führen Bildungs- und Sozialforscher, aber auch Organisationsentwickler westlicher Gesellschaften Debatten über den konstruktiven Umgang mit kultureller Unterschiedlichkeit und Diversität. Dabei haben beide Handlungsfelder mehr gemeinsam, als es auf den ersten Blick erscheinen mag: Normativ erwünschte Umgangsformen mit Differenz und Diversität sind in beiden Fällen Produkte diskursiver Konstruktionen und unterliegen als solche einem permanenten inhaltlichen Wandel. Darüber hinaus konkurrieren in beiden Bereichen zahlreiche Auslegungen der Begriffe: In anwendungsorientierten Bereichen westlicher Kulturforschung gehört ein Beklagen der inflationären Verwendung der Kategorie sozialer Diversität zwischenzeitlich zum guten Ton. Gleichzeitig scheint der Begriff, seitdem die Sozialwissenschaften in den 1960er Jahren auf ihn aufmerksam wurden, von seiner Unschärfe nur wenig eingebüßt zu haben.
