Zusammenfassung

Seit der Weltfrauenkonferenz in Beijing (1995) wird Gewalt gegen Frauen und Mädchen im Alltag nicht nur als öffentliches Thema sondern auch als Menschenrechtsfrage verhandelt. Seit 1998 hat jede neue EU-Präsidentschaft eigene Initiativen zur Bekämpfung von Gewalt gegen Frauen vorgestellt, der Europarat hat umfassende Empfehlungen hierzu verabschiedet, internationale Organisationen wie die UNO und die WHO, aber auch engagierte Menschenrechtsorganisationen wie terres des hommes und amnesty international haben sich des Themas angenommen (vgl. Wölte 2002).
