Zusammenfassung

Die Verbindung von Netzwerkanalyse und Bourdieus Sozialtheorie scheint unproblematisch, gilt Bourdieu doch als einer der Väter des Sozialkapitalbegriffs, der wiederum von der Netzwerkanalyse zumindest stark beeinflusst ist (Adler/ Kwon 2002: 19). Seit den Ursprüngen der Konjunktur des Sozialkapitalbegriffs zu Beginn der 1980er Jahre haben sich die Wege von Bourdieus Theorie und der Netzwerkanalyse jedoch getrennt. Während das Sozialkapitalkonzept bei Bourdieu kaum operationalisiert wird, öffnet der Begriff einer empirisch orientierten Netzwerkanalyse viele Pforten. So entstehen komplementäre Kompetenzen in voneinander weitgehend unverbundenen Forschungsbereichen: Auf der einen Seite entwickelt Bourdieu seine Praxistheorie (1976) zu einer allgemeinen Gesellschaftstheorie weiter, die später immer mehr die Form einer allgemeinen Theorie sozialer Felder annimmt (Bourdieu 1974, 2001, 2001 [1992]; Bourdieu/ Wacquant 1996). Auf der anderen Seite bleibt die dynamische Entwicklung des netzwerkanalytischen Methodenkanons ungebrochen (Beckert 2005; Scott 1988).
