Zusammenfassung
Virtuelle Unternehmen (VU) werden oft als eine neue Organisationsform sui generis beschrieben mit der sich spezifische Herausforderungen für die Gestaltung von Unternehmensstrukturen und -routinen verknüpfen. Bislang hat sich aber in der Literatur keine einheitliche Definition für die Organisationsform „Virtuelles Unternehmen“ durchgesetzt. Nach dem Abflauen der Begeisterung über die Möglichkeiten der internet-gestützten „New Economy“ ist auch das Interesse an den Möglichkeiten und Funktionsbedingungen virtueller Unternehmen rapide zurückgegangen. Virtuelle Unternehmen können aber genereller als eine besondere Form von projektorientierten Unternehmensnetzwerken begriffen werden (gekennzeichnet durch die intensive und konstitutive Nutzung von Informations- und Kommunikationstechniken) und damit aus ihrer zu starken Abhängigkeit von einer Modediskussion herausgelöst werden.
