Zusammenfassung
Die erfolgreiche Integration hochqualifizierter MigrantInnen hängt von der Anerkennung ihres kulturellen Kapitals ab. Pierre Bourdieu betont, dass sowohl Zeugnissen über Bildungstitel als auch den Personen, die die Zeugnisse besitzen, ein bestimmter Status beigemessen wird (Bourdieu 1984). Ohne eine entsprechende Anerkennung wird das kulturelle Kapital von hochqualifizierten MigrantInnen abgewertet. Entsprechend untersucht Bourdieu sowohl die institutionelle als auch die inkorporierte Form des kulturellen Kapitals. Inkorporierte Formen des kulturellen Kapitals umfassen Soft Skills, einschließlich der Sprachkenntnisse. Sie können mit darüber entscheiden, ob die institutionellen Formen des kulturellen Kapitals, Bildungsabschlüsse, Titel und die Berufserfahrung, die MigrantInnen im Ausland erworben haben, Anerkennung finden. Im Folgenden wird untersucht, wie institutionelle Rahmenbedingungen die Anerkennung von kulturellem Kapital auf dem kanadischen Arbeitsmarkt fördern oder behindern.
