Abstract
Sampling for the European Social Survey: Principles and Findings
The European Social Survey (ESS) is an academically-driven social survey designed to chart and explain the interaction between Europe’s changing institutions and the attitudes, beliefs and behaviour patterns of its diverse populations. Now in its fourth round, the survey covers over 30 nations and employs the most rigorous methodologies. In order to ensure highest quality standards, several workpackages have been set up, one of them dealing with the planning and implementation of sampling strategies in the participating countries. It is the aim of this contribution to illustrate the goals and functioning of this workpackage.
