Zusammenfassung
Alphabetisierung ist keine klassische Aufgabe der Erwachsenenbildung . Diese setzt Alphabetisiertsein üblicherweise voraus. Damit werden aber historische Erfahrungen euro pä ischer Gesellschaften seit der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts verallgemeinert. Dass die Schul pfl icht bis ins kleinste Dorf und die letzte Gasse großstädtischer Proleta rier viertel re a li siert, dass die Bevölkerung durchgängig schreib-lesefähig sei, war im plizite Voraus setzung reformpädagogischer Erwachsenenbildung, in Deutschland z.B. der „neuen Rich tung“ in den zwanziger Jahren.
