Auszug
Wie Kinder und Jugendliche mit Medien umgehen sollen, ist nicht erst seit den Amokläufen von Schülern in Erfurt und Emsdetten, die intensiv so genannte Ego-Shooter-Spiele gespielt haben, eine gesellschaftlich kontrovers diskutierte Angelegenheit. Einerseits sind Medien die zentralen Pfeiler einer Informationsgesellschaft (Umesao 1963; Toffler & Toffler 1994; Castells 2001, 2002, 2003). Die Fähigkeit, mit Medien umzugehen, ist damit eine Voraussetzung für gesellschaftlichen Fortschritt und für die Teilhabe eines Individuums daran (Schramm 1964; Miller & Slater 2000; OECD 2000; Perraton 2000; Skuse 2000; Bonfadelli 2002; WEF 2003). Andererseits ist der ungehemmte Gebrauch von Medien, insbesondere von Fernseher und Computer, kritisch zu diskutieren, könnte er doch negative Auswirkungen auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung von Kindern und Jugendlichen haben (Lefkowitz u.a. 1977; Paik & Comstock 1994; Anderson & Bushman 2001, 2002; Subrahmanyam u.a. 2001; Johnson u.a. 2002; Huesmann u.a. 2003; Rideout, Vandewater & Wartella 2003).
