Die Online-Befragung bietet seit mehreren Jahren eine Ergänzung und oft sogar Alternative zu klassischen Befragungsmethoden. Der sich aufdrängende Vergleich von online- und offline erhobenen Daten wird in der Literatur breit diskutiert und zeichnet die Online-Befragung meist mit guten Noten aus.1 Wie in diesem Band deutlich wird, sind die Einsatzmöglichkeiten dieser Methode weit gestreut und beinhalten qualitative wie quantitative Verfahren, die für sozialwissenschaftliche wie auch kommerzielle Fragestellungen eingesetzt werden. Online- wie Offline-Befragungen haben gemeinsam, dass die erhobenen Daten in die Kategorie der Input-Output-Daten fallen.2 Dieser Beitrag möchte eine zusätzliche Datenebene beleuchten, die für Online-Befragungen gleichermaßen interessant ist wie für Online-Experimente: die Sammlung von Prozessdaten. Der Begriff Prozessdaten meint in diesem Zusammenhang, dass mehrere Datenpunkte pro Nutzer registriert und verarbeitet werden.
