„Was sehen Sie eigentlich, wenn Sie ein Unternehmen kaufen?“ Diese Frage stellte der Kunsthistoriker Michael Bockemühl den Teilnehmern eines Kongresses zu Unternehmensfusionen und -übernahmen am 18. November 1999. Die Teilnehmer — sämtlich aus der M&A-Profession, von Wirtschaftsprüfern, Beratern über Investmentbanker bis hin zu Vorständen — versuchten es redlich. Dennoch blieb die Frage nach einigen Versuchen der Gegenfrage wie „Cash Flows?“, „Umsatz?“, „Bilanzen?“, „Kunden?“, „Produkte?“ eher unbeantwortet — zumindest für einen Kunsthistoriker.
