Wie ist die weltweite Verbreitung lebenslangen Lernens zu erklären?1 Dieser Beitrag untersucht, warum diese Idee in bildungspolitischen Zielsetzungen so viel Zuspruch gewonnen hat und stellt die Hypothese auf, dass internationale Organisationen die Ursache dieses Diffusionsprozesses sind. Durch zahlreiche Aktivitäten auf internationaler Ebene wird die Idee heute weltweit in einer Vielzahl von Ländern unterstützt, in Industrieländern ebenso wie in so genannten Entwicklungsländern.
