Auszug
Die Forschung über die Einflussfaktoren individueller Lebenszufriedenheit hat sich mittlerweile als ernst zu nehmender Forschungszweig etabliert (vgl. Diener/Kahnemann/Schwarz 1999; Frey/Stutzer 2002; Layard 2006). Es wird somit möglich, dessen Ergebnisse zu nutzen, um eine Frage zu beantworten, welche unserer Meinung nach die entscheidende Frage hinter der Konstruktion eines Wohlfahrtsstaates sein sollte: Trägt dieser optimal zur Erhöhung der gesellschaftlichen Wohlfahrt bei? Diese Frage möchten wir für Deutschland — in einem hier möglichen begrenzten Rahmen — beantworten.
